I travelled to Malta in September 2021, a last-minute decision after many failed trips due to the pandemic.
I had no expectations before my trip because I did not know much about Malta. I also did not know many people who had been, so I had not received much advice. Hence, I am creating this Malta travel blog to help those who want to learn more about travel in Malta.
I was blown away by Malta. It was unexpectedly wonderful because of its culture, architecture, food, landscapes, weather, and people. For those wondering, is Malta worth visiting? My response would be yes. Add it to your bucket list now.

Places to Visit in Malta
To create your own Malta travel plan, aim to include several of the below destinations.

Things to Do in Malta
- Get up close to the Blue Grotto on a boat ride
- Walk around City Gate and the Valletta Fountain at sunset
- Take a dip in the rough ocean at St. Peter’s Pool
- Visit the fish market at Marsaxlokk on Sunday
- Take a picture at the Popeye Village viewpoint
- Walk down Republic Street in Valletta
- Eat lunch at the upstairs terrace of Fontanella Tea Garden, Mdina
- See a view of Valletta harbour from Upper Barrakka Gardens
- Watch the sunset at Dingli Cliffs
- Witness the incredible interior of St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta

I would recommend booking a private boat tour of Comino so you can tell the driver what you would like to see. Also, you do not have to worry about being on a party boat if that is not your style.
If you are interested in a party-style boat tour of Comino with younger crowds, consider a shared full-day boat tour or a shared full-day catamaran tour.
What to Pack for Malta?
Here are some items that I brought with me that I recommend you pack and items that I forgot to bring.
Underwater Camera
There will be many occasions to use an underwater camera, but the best place is on a Comino boat trip to Blue Lagoon and Crystal Lagoon.
I recommend the GoPro. I was really disappointed because I forgot to charge my GoPro so I could not use mine on my Comino boat tour.
Portable Charger
I used my phone constantly in Malta for Google Maps and researching things, so I rarely made it through the day without charging my phone a second time.
You can find portable phone chargers on Amazon.
Reusable Water Bottle
If you are travelling to Malta in the summer, it will be hot during the day. Therefore, it would be wise to bring an insulated water bottle to keep your water cool.
You don’t tend to drink tap water in Malta, so pour your bottled water into your own insulated water bottle.
UK Chargers
They use the same plugs as the UK in Malta. Bring an adapter if you do not use the 3-prong charger. Some hotels may have some European sockets.
Mosquito Repellent
There are mosquitos in Malta, so make sure you spray your ankles and wrists with insect repellent when going out in the summer.
Earplugs
They like to fire cannons in Malta, usually during the day at noon and 4:00 pm. So do not be alarmed if you hear this noise.
You may also be travelling to Malta during a Feast, which means they will set off the cannons more than usual, as well as fireworks well into the night. There are several feasts throughout the summer.
One of my top tips for visiting Malta is to consider packing some earplugs in case of noise at night.
